Acne Scar Healing: Tips and Pointers

Treating Acne Scarring

If the scar is already there, you’ve got nothing more to do but to get rid of it.  By working through the following pointers for acne scarring treatment, you can make your acne scars go away as soon as possible.

Avoid picking out scabs. A scab is that piece of dry and rough skin that covers the healing acne wound.  It naturally sheds off once the healing process is done.  Pulling the scab can interfere with and delay the skin regeneration and your efforts to remove your acne scars.

Exposing your bare skin to the sun can cause further skin damage.  This can also delay the healing of your damaged skin.  It’s best to wear a good sunscreen when you’re out enjoying the sunshine.

Tretinoin, which usually comes in the form of topical cream, can speed up the healing process of your skin.  Retin-A and Renova are the some of the best tretinoin brands.

For mild acne scars with superficial pigmentation, a chemical peel can help.  Exfoliants such as those that contain AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids) or BHA (Beta-Hydroxy Acids) are chemical peeling agents effective for treating acne scars.

Do not experiment.  Remember that your skin type might be different from that of other people who find certain skin care products effective. Lots of acne scar healing solutions can be bought over the counter, and you might be tempted to try some of them.

Since we’re into skin talk (think about your acne scars getting worse after applying a so-so acne scar removing cream), it’s best that you seek for a doctor’s recommendation on what brand of topical preparations or medicine to use for acne scar.  If they are not available over the counter, your doctor can give you a prescription for it.

Do not forget to ask your doctor how much or how often you should apply the product over your skin.  Follow his instructions carefully, as putting too much chemical peeling substances can burn your skin and make matters worse.

For severe acne scars, especially those with post-inflammatory pigmentation and pitted acne scars, the doctor might recommend that you undergo laser procedure for treating your acne scarring.
